Le Marché


There are still public markets all over France. There is one 2 blocks from here on Wednesdays and Fridays. We arrived here on a Tuesday and I visited the market Wednesday, Saturday and again on Wednesday, so 3 times in the first 8 days here. I took the picture above on my first visit. Then I took some more pictures this week, which I have put on another page. Market photos.
I can buy most types of food at the market - produce, meat, prepared foods, cheese, but not canned or frozen or packaged foods. Also you can buy clothes, underwear, lingerie, toys, scarves, trinkets, and other things there. I need to go to a store today for kleenex, paper towels, plastic bags and milk, but I've got food in the house to last me for a while.

Ceci, I very much enjoy reading about your many travels and loved cathing up with your latest venture in France. Lucky you! Looking forward to more photos. I'd love if you'd consider une petit mot en Francais on occasion- if only to serve as a refresher for me!

A visit to Louis Pasteur Museum

We decided to try to visit the Louis Pasteur museum, which we thought was on the campus of the Louis Pasteur Institute , a bio-medical research institution in Paris. We passed this church, which was called St. John the Baptist de la Salle. I hadn't heard of this saint before, but I liked the statue of him with the children. Then we passed a building on our right with lots of people walking around it carrying notebooks. They looked like students. We still weren't sure where the museum was, but through a gate on our left we saw this statue, which Jim recognised from some papers he'd read. We went into the reception area at the guard house and asked for the museum and were told it was here. The girl asked us for ID's and made us name badges right on the spot. We clipped them onto our clothes and walked into the museum. Inside we saw signs directing us upstairs. The desk for the museum was empty, but a sign said it would be open at 2:00. Four Hours in Paris

Paris is wonderful , whether you spend months there or just a few hours. Recently, we've been going in to the city on our way home for just a few hours and dinner. We spend a night near the airport on our way home from Normandy. Once we turn in the car and check into the hotel, we take the train in to Paris and walk around for a few hours. This time we decided to revisit the Mont-Martre area. The train from the airport stops at Gare du Nord and from there Mont Martre is a nice walk. First we stopped for a drink at this sidewalk café. Then we walked on up the hill till we could see Sacré Coeur. I took this one for our daughter-in-law, who works for Lindt. It was a little warm, so we rode the funicular up to the church. There was a long line to get inside, but it's the exterior of this church that is so impressive.  The view from below the church is always fun. A visit to Guernsey of the Channel Islands

Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands or as they are called in French Les Isles Anglo-Normands , in not, according to Wikipedia, part of the U.K. It is a crown dependency and a Bailiwick. I knew very little about the Channel Islands of Europe, except that they had cows, before I read the novel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society , by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Ever since reading that book several years ago, I have wanted to visit Guernsey. I hadn’t been able to make the trip in our many visits to Normandy before this, so I decided I was going to go this year in June, whether Jim went with me or not. He decided to go, so that made it easier and more fun for me. It takes about 5 hours to get to Guernsey from here. It would be easier to get to Jersey, but there were a couple reasons I wanted to go to Guernsey.
